What Is Laser Hair Removal And How Is It Done?

The laser hair removal procedure is done with the use of lasers which use light wavelengths of different levels; some of these lasers use a device for cooling whereas others may not.

These lasers produce light gently in a beam which goes through your skin into the follicles of hair and then the hair absorbs it. The energy from the laser transforms itself to heat and the follicles become disabled. Some people may feel a slight pinching sensation or a feeling like a pop of a small rubber band upon your skin. Most practices will give you the option of having a topical anesthesia applied before the procedure is started.

Laser hair removal is done to rid your body of any unwanted hair in a variety of areas that you may be experiencing problems with.

Men tend to ask for this procedure to be done on either their shoulders or their backs. A procedure on the back will take approximately one hour to complete and the procedure on the shoulders takes about forty-five minutes.

Women use hair removal by laser on areas like the bikini, legs, under arms, upper lip and the chin. The bikini area treatment takes about eight minutes, under the arms about one and a half minutes to do, the area of the chin around two minutes the upper lip around fifteen seconds and the legs take a lot longer up to three hours for the procedure.

Most people will need to have anywhere from three to six treatments for the full benefits of permanent removal of the hair. Your color of hair, tone of your skin and hair coarseness all plays important roles in how many of these treatments may be necessary for you to reap the best benefits.

The follicles of the hair once they are destroyed will not grow again. This is only if the recommended amount of treatments has been completed.

To begin preparation for the laser hair removal procedure you will need to avoid electrolysis, waxing or plucking for approximately three weeks prior to the procedure. Sun tanning and exposure should also be avoided on the areas which will be treated.

After your treatment is done, you should be able to return to your normal everyday routines and work schedules immediately. Keep exposure to the sun to a minimum about two weeks after your treatment.

Shaving of the hair in and around the area being treated is perfectly alright after a four day period is passed. DO NOT pluck, use electrolysis or wax these areas in between your treatment as this could cause the next scheduled procedure to be ineffective. Shaving is the safest and only approved method of removing unwanted hair during this time.

After your treatment you may have no indications a procedure has been done. You could have some reactions such as minor swelling or redness around the treated area, but this is rarely the case. If it happens it will clear up within a short period of time.

As with anything there are some risks included, but occurrences are rare but may happen. These could include skin discoloration, blistering of the skin, infection, burning of the skin and a possible allergic problems.
