Labiaplasty: A Procedure That Builds Self-Esteem.

A woman gains self-esteem when she knows that her skin is soft, her figure pleasing and her countenance alluring. Those features can help a woman to attract a man. Once in bed with a man, a woman can loose her self esteem, if she has unusually large or misshapen labia.

The labia are the tissues that cover the clitoris of a woman. If they are especially large, they can be the reason for a loss of self-esteem. Large labia can also be a source of irritation, especially when a woman chooses to wear tight-fitting clothing.

There are then two different categories for the factors that might drive a woman to request a labiaplasty. Some women request the procedure for medical reasons; they want to end the irritating rub that they experience at certain times. Other women request the procedure for aesthetic reasons; they want to "look" better when they are in bed with a spouse of partner.

Modern day women seek more options in every area of life. Naturally, they now want more options concerning their appearance during intercourse. The labiaplasty gives women more options. That fact explains the increasing demand for labiaplasty.

A request for a labiaplasty is not always driven by a desire for smaller labia. It can arise from a desire for sculpted labia. It can also come from an older woman, a woman who would like to see her labia take-on a more youthful appearance.

When a woman desires a labiaplasty, she can expect to meet with a number of different doctors. She might spend time with a cosmetic surgeon, an OB/GYN, an urologist and a plastic surgeon. A woman should welcome such preparation for her planned 1 to 2 hour procedure.

The improvements in the procedure known as labiaplasty have allowed women to agree to the procedure, without great concern about scarring, pain and recovery time. The procedure does expose a woman to a certain amount of risk. As in any surgery, a labiaplasty can lead to infection or bleeding. Bleeding can be reduced, if a laser is used during the labiaplasty.

A poorly-done labiaplasty can result in asymmetry. Such a problem can only be corrected through further surgery. That fact must be considered by those women who might have struggled to pay the $1500 to $3000 for the initial operation. Labiaplasty is seldom covered by medical insurance.

Although not covered by medical insurance, labiaplasty is not a simple procedure. At the start of a labiaplasty, the surgeon trims off from the labia any excess tissue. Next, the surgeon removes a wedge-shaped section of tissue. Finally the surgeon removes the top layer of the labia, leaving the underlying tissue intact.

After a labiaplasty, a woman can return to work in 2 to 5 days. While recovering from the labiaplasty, she needs to wear a pad, much like the pad worn by a menstruating woman.

After labiaplasty, a woman can not "show-off" her improved labia for at least 6 weeks. She must wait 6 weeks before enjoying the company of a man in bed.
