Brow Lift

A Brow Lift Can Produce Eyebrow-Raising Results.

A brow lift corrects for the signs of aging. When someone between the ages of 40 and 60 looses elasticity in his or her skin, then the face of that older adult can develop wrinkles. Those wrinkles often appear on the forehead. A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, can remove those wrinkles.

A wrinkled forehead can make a person's eyebrows look "heavy". Removal of the wrinkles allows the eyebrows to appear more normal in size. When performing a brow lift, a cosmetic surgeon removes or changes the some of the muscles and connective tissue on the forehead. That then causes the forehead to appear smoother.

Immediately after a brow lift, a patient must deal with the bruising nature of the procedure. The patient's face will be noticeably swollen. The swelling can be reduced, if the patient remains upright at all times. The patient should keep his or her head elevated for 10 days.

Immediately after a brow lift, the patient's face is wrapped in bandages. Those bandages remain in place for 1 to 3 days. The bandages can come off on day 3 after the surgery. Removal of the bandages can initiate feelings of numbness and itching. Those are signs that the surgical wounds are healing.

Stitches can be removed between 7 to 10 days following surgery. Removal of the bandages and the stitches does not remove the bruises on the face. Those disappear more slowly. They can usually be disguised with make-up.

During a conventional brow lift, the surgeon places a long cut in the area behind the patient's hairline. The resulting scar thus remains largely hidden. A conventional brow lift can affect the nerves that control the eyebrow.

Thanks to the introduction of endoscopic surgery, the patient who wants a brow lift does not have to accept the possession of a long scar right behind his or her hairline. Using and endoscope, a surgeon can remove the excess tissue thorough a few small incisions.

Often patients choose to have a brow lift in combination with another type of cosmetic surgery. The surgeon can easily perform a brow lift along with either a face lift or an eyelid tuck. Surgeons like to limit the number of times that any patient must be given anesthesia.

The patient who receives a brow lift gets a face enhancement. A brow lift does not provide a patient with dramatic facial changes. Friends might note the disappearance of wrinkles on the patient's face. They might comment about the fact that the patient with the lifted brow appears a bit younger.

Before getting a brow lift, the patient should weigh carefully the benefits of those possible comments. After all, a brow lift is a surgical procedure. It subjects the patient to a certain amount of risk. A patient could develop a post surgical infection following a brow lift.

Still, few people enjoy looking in a mirror at eyebrows that seem to become more "heavy" with each passing day. Many people have enjoyed the reaction of friends and family to the enhancements provided by a well done brow lift.
